There are several factors that predispose individuals to greater risk of developing severe Covid-19 symptoms or increasing ones risk of potentially dying. Some are listed and explored below. What can be done to mitigate these potential risks are also touched on further down have a look it may save your life or your love ones.

Covid Severity and Mortality Risk factors:

  • Risk Increase with age.
    • Elderly
  • Risk increases with compromised immune system.
    • Individuals with Cancer, AIDS, Asthma, Sickle cell.
    • New-born babies
  • Risk increases with pre-existing NCD.
    • Obesity & Cardiovascular disease
    • Diabetes, Hypertension
      • Hypertensive individuals on blood pressure lowering drugs.
  • Risk increases with Gender.
    • Males are at higher risk.
  • Risk increases with darker skin tone.
    • Darker you are the less Vitamin D3 you naturally produce.
  • Risk increases with Geographic location during winter periods.
    • Closer you are to the poles the less Vitamin D3 you are likely to produce during the winter month.
  • Risk increases with Blood type A

 

High Risk & Vulnerable individuals:

  • Elderly
  • People with compromised immune systems
  • People with certain chronic disease
  • Males
  • Dark skin or black people
  • You live close to the poles during the winter period
  • New-born babies

 

The most vulnerable persons would therefore be black male over 65years old with Blood type A and a cardiovascular disease living in North America or Europe.

One common thread connecting the risk are low Vitamin D3 levels. Which would suggest increasing these levels may reduce ones risk of death or developing sever symptoms.


Risk Mitigation Notes:

  • The risk of death increases with age, gender, and comorbidities but they are not a death sentence.
  • Not everyone infected with Covid-19 dies. Survivors also include individuals over 65 with comorbidities.
    • 91% of individuals over 65 years old are statistically capable of surviving with treatment.
  • Risk of death may potentially be reduced in high-risk individuals if they take active pre-emptive steps to improve their health.
    • Know your health risks.
    • Get vaccinated if you are at increased risk for death.
    • Boost your health by eating healthy, exercising, and resting in accordance with the recommendations by your medical doctor.
      • Consulting your doctors about supplementing with Vitamin D3 is highly recommended.
    • Know the symptoms and self-evaluate to achieve early detection.
    • Pre-emptively determine your potential course of treatment with your doctor in the event of contracting Covid-19 particularly for higher risk individuals.
