While this idea is nothing new and there have been many advocates for the introduction of such facilities I would like to personally put it on the front pages for myself. The chart below shows how powerless the nations electricity company has been in its ability to deliver cheap energy to the nation. Current electricity cost is driven primarily by the Fuel and IPP charges. Jamaicans as a result can easily project increased cost in their electricity bill over the next few years and it is quite possible that in the very near future Jamaicans can be expected to pay close to or above JM$50.00 per kilowatt hour (KWh). That country happens to be Singapore. Tessane Chin strikes a beautiful pose. So the data establishes that Jamaican's wealth has grown sluggishly relative to Singapore over the last 40 years. Yet Jamaica and Jamaicans are known world wide for our infectious music, sport dominance and bodacious culture. Jamaicans have given the world so much to be excited about but the value gained has not translated to meaningful development. The obvious explanation has been the mismanagement by the political powers. While this may be so I can't help but also lay blame at the foot of the people, for too often the destructive "eat a food" mentality has dominated the constructive cultural creativity exhibited by the music. Jamaicans will have to pay more for everything from here on-wards. 2013 saw the Exchange Rates reach record new highs and this trend does not seem likely to abate in the near future (See: An Exchange Rate Racing Away at Who's Expense ). When the dust settled in 2013 the Jamaican dollar closed buying US dollars at $106.38 . Of critical importance is the underlying fact that the exchange rate of a country is a proxy as to how valuable a country is relative to other countries. The most notable thing in the above chart is that Jamaica's value has been decreasing at an increasing rate (See - Jamaica Country at Alarming Economic Risk ).
